Filip Matjek created the sans-serif Nuckle Font, which was made available in 2016 by the foundry Heavyweight in Prague. Although Helvetica served as inspiration for the design, the typeface’s greater x-height, wider proportions, and tilted terminals give it a more typical grotesque appearance. The family currently comes in eight upright weights, with nine in the future.
One of the first Heavyweight fonts indeed, the first is Nuckle. Before the Heavyweight was formally established in 2011, the earliest versions of this alphabet were first seen.
As a practical grotesque that suited the needs of particular graphic applications, typical of Heavyweight’s style, Nuckle evolved naturally.
Nuckle’s desire to stand out from the vast majority of contemporary sans-serif alphabets that use the same principles was the result of more thorough research and the pursuit of the optimal position in this font category.
Use of Nuckle font
Even in the smallest settings, Nuckle performs even better. In poster size, it fills the gap between the lines.
The fact that Nuckle is used specifically in sizes 4b to 12b in a catalog for the FAMU Film Festival attests to the fact that the more compressed line leading seems to be a welcome benefit in lengthier text environments.
Because there isn’t much of a size difference between lowercase and uppercase letters, the intelligibility of accents is logically stressed to the max. Heavyweight uses the Nuckle font for its logo. This typeface is very similar to the ginora sans font.
Other applications include the logo for the Courreges clothing line from Paris, the Gerhard Richter show at the National Gallery in Prague, and the Marseille Riam Festival.
